“A walk along the Great Miami River in Troy is more than just a little stroll. It’s an introduction to an extensive recreational area that is a tribute to good planning and hard work – and a love for the
outdoors and physical activity.
Our parks and recreational facilities are unsurpassed by any other community our size. Troy’s city park
system includes 32 parks and well over a thousand acres, most of which serve as neighborhood parks for
family use. Troy has five times the recommended park acreage goal of the National Recreation and Park
Association.
Additionally, Troy is the home to the Brukner Nature Center, a 165-acre preserve serving as an
educational center as well as an outstanding natural habitat. The Hobart Arena offers the best in a wide
variety of world-class live entertainment events, including concerts, ice shows and sporting events. The
Hobart Arena recently underwent a $3.5-million renovation. Next to the Arena is the Troy Aquatic
complex with a state of the art Olympic sized swimming pool. Next to that is the pride and joy of our
community, the 10,000-seat Troy Memorial Stadium that has housed sporting events for more than fifty
years.
Few cities Troy’s size have facilities that compare with the stadium and arena and even fewer have the
kind of setting that includes so many recreational opportunities.
For bicycle enthusiasts, the bike path in Troy is part of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail in Miami
County that will ultimately extend from Montgomery County north through Shelby County. Future plans
include continued expansion of the paths and existing trails.
The bottom line is that when it comes to recreation, the sky’s the limit – and sometimes that’s not even
true, since you often can see a hot air balloon or two drifting above Troy on summer days or hitch a ride
in a WACO when the planes come to town for a fly-in. Organized team sports, opportunities for
individual workouts or just long walks or bicycle rides along quiet paths and streets – they’re all just a
few steps out your front door when you live in Troy.
